Eiji Ueda is a Partner and Head of Asia Pacific at Apollo. He most recently served as Chief Investment Officer of Japan Government Pension Investment Fund (GPIF), where he led a strategic portfolio restructuring of one of the world’s largest institutional investment portfolios. 

Prior to joining GPIF, Eiji spent nearly three decades with Goldman Sachs holding positions across major financial centres, including Head of Fixed Income Trading and Head of Fixed Income Trading and Head of Fixed Income, Currency, and Commodities (FICC) in Tokyo as well as Co-Head of Securities, Asia, based in Hong Kong. He also served as a member of Goldman’s Asia-Pacific Management Committee, Firmwide Risk Committee and Chair of Asia-Pacific Risk Committee. Throughout his career, Ueda has demonstrated expertise in global markets, risk management, fixed income strategy and institutional leadership. 

He holds a BA in Chemical Engineering from the University of Tokyo and is an Advisory Board Member on the Center for Applied Capital Markets Research at The University Tokyo.
