In a Bloomberg interview, Leslie Mapondera, Partner at Apollo, highlights Apollo’s growing investment activity across European energy and infrastructure. Mapondera discusses Apollo’s $6.5 billion commitment to Ørsted’s Hornsea 3 — the world’s largest offshore wind farm project. Through this investment, Apollo will help to deliver renewable electricity to more than 3 million UK homes, supporting key infrastructure for energy security as well as the UK’s net zero ambitions. At Apollo, we look to serve as a scaled provider of long-term, flexible capital solutions for leading companies and infrastructure – “at the heart of financing the European Industrial Renaissance.”
Leslie Mapondera, Partner and Co-Head of European Credit: We are extremely proud to be partnered with Ørsted on what we think is an extraordinarily exciting project. We’ve partnered on Hornsea 3, the world’s largest offshore wind developer and the world’s largest offshore wind project.
We’re providing strategic capital using our long-term, flexible balance sheets and a very innovative structure to finance this transaction. It puts us right where we want to be — at the heart of financing the European Industrial Renaissance.
This project is strategically important for the UK — three gigawatts of power, the equivalent of about three million homes. It’s truly strategic for both us and Ørsted, and it sits right at the center of the strategy we’re pursuing.
As you know, this year we’ve done transactions with RW, BP, and EDF — all around the themes of energy transition and energy security.
And this is exactly the kind of work we want to continue spending our time on.
“We’re providing strategic capital using our long-term, flexible balance sheets and a very innovative structure to finance this transaction.”
Leslie Mapondera, Partner at Apollo
