At Apollo, we encourage everyone to get involved with purpose-driven leadership via non-profit board service. It is important to our firm and culture and is a win-win-win: Our leaders grow, our firm impact expands, and our communities strengthen.

Apollo Opportunity Foundation hosted an event during the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) which brought together executives, philanthropists, nonprofit leaders and emerging changemakers to build the next generation or resilient, high-impact boards.

Why does this matter to us?

The event, titled called “The Future of Non-Profit Board Leadership,” underscored our view that the skills and experience gained through non-profit board leadership have broad applicability, accelerate professional development, and enrich firm culture. We encourage all employees to be involved in a way that feels authentic to them as we believe it catalyzes multi-faceted impact: it develops our leaders, enhances our firm and strengthens the communities in which we live and work.

By serving on a non-profit board, Apollo leaders sharpen their skills, expand their networks and gain fresh perspectives. Fostering board service inspires employees through purpose and reinforces Apollo’s commitment to being actively engaged in its local communities. It also influences our culture to value human-centered leadership, seek new perspectives, and ultimately spark innovation. Placing leaders on non-profit boards harnesses the power of the entire Apollo ecosystem to drive impact – inside and outside of Apollo. We are proud of our team and strive to create a platform to leverage their time and talents with communities around the world.

We aim to have 100% of Partners serving on non-profit boards by February 2026. We currently have 83% of global Partners serving on non-profit boards and another 15% are actively engaged in the placement process. We also recently introduced a new Board Bonus Match benefit for all employees currently serving on non-profit boards – in which Apollo will double the impact of their personal philanthropy. We want to encourage everyone at the firm to get involved with purpose-driven leadership because it is a win-win-win: Our leaders grow, our firm impact expands, and our communities strengthen.
