Grant Kvalheim is CEO of Athene, where he is responsible for expanding market share, prioritizing innovation, entering new markets and leading Athene through its next phase of growth. He currently serves on Athene’s board and is a member of the Executive Committee. Grant is also a Partner at Apollo and a member of the Firm’s Leadership Team.
Grant joined Athene in January 2011 as its CFO and later served as President, a role he held until July 2025. As Athene’s President, Grant was responsible for leading Athene’s U.S. operating companies with a focus on growing the retail annuity, flow reinsurance, and funding agreement businesses.
Prior to joining Athene, Grant was a senior executive at Barclays Capital. During his time at Barclays, he converted a European cash investment grade business into a leading global cash and derivatives business across both securitized and non-securitized credit products and significantly expanded Barclays’ investment banking platform. Prior to joining Barclays, Grant held senior executive positions in the investment banks of Deutsche Bank and Merrill Lynch.
Grant holds a BS in Economics from Claremont McKenna College and an MBA in Finance from the University of Chicago. He currently serves on the board of directors of the American Council of Life Insurers, Greater Outdoors Foundation, Sol Health and Mottahedeh & Co.
